Cutty Sark Gardens, King William Walk, Greenwich, SE10 9HT
Cutty Sark has travelled across the world, sailing under both the Red Ensign and the Portugese flag. She visited every major port in the world through the course of her working life and carried many different cargos all around the world, including wool, coal, shark bones, pianos, mail and rice. She brought the world to London.
Artist Joel Sydenham created the mural and worked with students from the Newhaven Pupil Referral Unit to complete it. In a year when the many international tourists have not been able to visit Greenwich, we like to remember the time when the Cutty Sark and ships like it brought goods and cultures from around the world into our city.
The Advent Window can be found in the tower next to the ship and can be seen at any time.
We all could use a helping hand during a challenging 2020. The Advent Window at Ben Oakley Gallery will have a couple of recognisable arms coming from different directions, with hands meeting in the middle.
The window is best viewed any time.
The window will be ready by 12:01 a.m. (Not a typo.)
St. Alfege Church Hall, Roan Street, Greenwich, SE10 9JT
In the Nativity story, the Star of Bethlehem inspired and guided the three kings to the baby Jesus. We have made stars which are both “near and far.”
Stars bring light to our dark skies. We hope that these stars that the children have made will bring joy and be a shining hope for humanity in these times.
Follow the light. Be the light. Live in the light. Amen.
The window is best viewed at night, but can be seen any time.
Stay unique and special. Be like a Pangolin. (What? You don’t know what a pangolin is? It’s also sometimes known as scaly anteaters, and are mammals of the order Pholidota.)
This year we are preparing for a very different Christmas. So many of our annual school traditions have had to change. However, one thing that has not changed is the awe and wonder of our children, who are keeping the Christmas spirit alive.
We may seem far away from one another, but these times bring a nearness in the form of strength and support of our community.
If we took a moment to see the world through the eyes of a child, we would experience the joy of finding happiness in many moments of our day. We can all look for positives and moments of magic every day: in nature, in acts of kindness, support and love for one another. If we hold onto and share this Christmas spirit, we will look after our children, ourselves and our whole community.
Our 2020 Advent Window hopes to bring Christmas joy to all.
The window will be ready by 3:30 p.m.
The window is best viewed any time from the road at Royal Hill.
