St. Alfege with St. Peter’s Church of England Primary School
9-10 Creek Road, Greenwich, SE10 9RB“
The pupils of St. Alfege with St. Peter’s Church of England Primary school put their creative efforts to good use with this Advent window, showing the Nativity scene, and all its attendant sheep, shepherds and angels, in silhouette.
A very special window with music and motion, this will be an amazing display showing all of us what we can do to make the world a better place. This automata is not to be missed!
Gonks. They’re everywhere this time of year, including at 213 Greenwich High Road. Gonks stem from Nordic and Scandinavian mythology and date from the 13th century. It is said that gonks like to sneak into houses and barns in the winter. If families treated them well, the gonks would protect the family and bring them good luck. If they didn’t welcome them, the gonks would play tricks on them. All gonks will be welcome on Greenwich High Road this Christmas season.
The window is best photographed during the day, but can be viewed at any time. It can be best seen from the bus stop in front of West Greenwich Library.
They’re having a bauble (and a ball!) over at Karen Woolven Flowers on Royal Hill. You really need to see this in person to appreciate it, and while you’re there, why not buy a wreath, some flowers, some Christmas ornaments, or even all three? They also have an array of beautiful plants, candles and chocolates that would make perfect Christmas presents.

Advent Windows 2021 concludes at St. Alfege Church, the organisers of this annual event.
The church’s own “window” is actually four images hung on the railing in front of the East Portico. The images are from the original sculpture created by Jonathan Bishop for the first ever Advent Window in 2007, which was an animation. The animation was back projected onto the window of a house on St. Alfege Passage, overlooking the church. It was originally sculpted as an eight-month foetus and the moving image resembled a medical scan. It was the first advent window to open, on 1 December, and the sculpture was presented in church re-shaped into a baby for Christmas Day.
