In our Advent Window, we remember our friend Mo who tragically died earlier this year. We remember her as a kind, talented, playful helper at our Sunday school. For our window this year we have chosen some of Mo’s beautiful artwork depicting some of her travels through life. We hold Mo in our hearts always walking together.

The window is best viewed any time.

The window will be ready by dusk on 13 December.

AdWinJWRPOne Small Step

James Wolfe Primary School, Randall Place Campus

Randall Place, Greenwich, SE10 9LA

A window to show that one small step is a journey that millions of refugees are taking every day. It may not be to the moon, but it is just as dangerous for many as they cross oceans and borders to find safety.

The design is simple: small bare footprints made by the children, to show how young and vulnerable some of these refugees are.

The window is best viewed after dark.

The window will be ready by 3:30 p.m. on 10 December.

8 December: Cutty Sark

December 8, 2015

Cutty Sark AWCutty Sark’s Christmas Cargoes

Cutty Sark

Cutty Sark Gardens, King William Walk, Greenwich, SE10 9HT

Cutty Sark was launched in 1869 to transport tea back from China. On her first voyage to Shanghai, she carried ‘large amounts of wine, spirits and beer’ on the outward leg of journey, returning with around 1,305,812 pounds of tea.

Cutty Sark has travelled around the world, sailing under both the Red Ensign and the Portuguese flag. She visited every major port in the world through the course of her working life and carried many different cargoes, including wool, coal, shark bones, pianos, mail and rice.

This Advent Window reflects some of the cargoes she carried, as well as objects our visitors would take on their own journey at sea.

We would like to thank all of the families who helped us create this window at our Christmas craft workshop.

The window is best viewed after dark.

The window will be ready by 5 p.m. on 8 December.

7 December: 51 Hyde Vale

IMG_3915I Saw Three Ships

51 Hyde Vale

Greenwich, SE10 8QQ

This window will illustrate the Christmas Carol, “I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing By,” using borrowed and found materials.

I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
I saw three ships come sailing in
On Christmas Day in the morning.

And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day?
And what was in those ships all three,
On Christmas Day in the morning?

The Virgin Mary and Christ were there,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
The Virgin Mary and Christ were there,
On Christmas Day in the morning.

Pray, wither sailed those ships all three,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
Pray, wither sailed those ships all three,
On Christmas Day in the morning?

O they sailed into Bethlehem,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
O they sailed into Bethlehem,
On Christmas Day in the morning.

And all the bells on earth shall ring,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
And all the bells on earth shall ring,
On Christmas Day in the morning.

And all the Angels in Heaven shall sing,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
And all the Angels in Heaven shall sing,
On Christmas Day in the morning.

And all the souls on earth shall sing,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
And all the souls on earth shall sing,
On Christmas Day in the morning.

Then let us all rejoice again,
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day;
Then let us all rejoice again,
On Christmas Day in the morning.

The window is best viewed any time.

The window will be ready by 6 p.m.

PC086258Long Walk Home

213 Greenwich High Road

Greenwich, SE10 8NB

Climate change has made the lives of polar bears much more difficult. They find themselves having to travel further and further to eat and live because the Arctic where they live is melting away. In this season of hope, we hope that polar bears won’t have such long walks home and their environment will change for the better soon.

The window is best photographed during the day, but can be viewed at any time.

The window will be ready by 4 p.m. on 5 December.
