Advent Windows 2019: “Waiting”

We are now in the midst of planning for the 2019 Advent Windows in Greenwich, which is now a beloved Christmas tradition. This year’s theme is “Waiting.” Read more about it here. The map with the locations for the 2019 Advent Windows will be added here soon.

Every year St Alfege Church, at the heart of Greenwich, London, runs an “Advent Windows” event whereby the town centre is brought alive by 24 unique offerings in the lead up to Christmas.

Shops, homes, schools and pubs use their imagination and artistry to produce the living Advent Calendar. A newly decorated window will be revealed, or “opened”, on each day of Advent (1st to 24th December) in different parts of Greenwich. A variety of media will be used, including paper art, models, light installations and paintings.

Once all 24 Advent Windows have been opened, seeing all of them usually takes around 3 hours on foot. You can view a programme of the window locations, or read about the window openings after each event on our blog. A summary of the window openings for the current day can be found under “Today’s Window”. You can also find us on Twitter and Instagram, where you can admire either our wit, pictures of the windows and maybe even both.

If you’d like to see the map for 2018, it can be found at the bottom of this page or by clicking through here.

The windows will stay up until Saturday, 4 January 2020.

You can find out further information about us and our church by logging on to the St Alfege website, by emailing or by ringing 020 8853 0687.

We hope you enjoy this Greenwich Christmas tradition.

Happy Christmas!
