Thank you to everyone who helped make Advent Windows such a success in 2020, especially everyone who created such amazing windows. It was just the jolt of Christmas cheer we needed on the streets of Greenwich. It continued to be a beloved Christmas tradition, even amid a global pandemic and various government restrictions. This year’s theme was “Near & Far.” Read more about it here.
See you on December 1, 2021 for our 15th year.
Every year St Alfege Church, in the heart of Greenwich, London, runs an “Advent Windows” event whereby the town centre is brought alive by 24 unique offerings in the lead up to Christmas.
Shops, homes, schools and pubs use their imagination and artistry to produce the living Advent Calendar. A newly decorated window will be revealed, or “opened”, on each day of Advent (1st to 24th December) in different parts of Greenwich. A variety of media will be used, including paper art, models, light installations and paintings.
Once all 24 Advent Windows have been opened, seeing all of them usually takes around 3 hours on foot. You can view a programme of the window locations, or read about the window openings after each event on our blog. A summary of the window openings for the current day can be found under “Today’s Window”. You can also find us on Twitter and Instagram, where you can admire either our wit, pictures of the windows and maybe even both.
Our 2020 map is below. You can see it there, or on the 2020 Map tab above. If you’d prefer a PDF version to download, just click through to here: Advent Windows Map 2020 PDF
The windows stayed up until Sunday, 3 January 2021.
